选项分析：

(A)ranks as the nation's third leading cause of death, surpassed only

【正确】 “Diabetes”虽然结尾有“s”但实际上是单数形式，和“ranks”保持了主谓一致。

【大意】糖尿病，及其严重的并发症，名列国家第三大死亡原因，仅仅被心脏病和癌症超过。

(B)rank as the nation's third leading cause of death, only surpassed

【错误1】主谓一致：“together with its serious complications”中的“it”指代“Diabetes”，由此可知“Diabetes”为单数或不可数概念，迎接单数谓语动词，本选项主谓不一致。
